A word used by the clerk of the pipe, and auditors in the exchequer, in their acquittances or discharges given to accountants; usually concluding with an abinde reeessit quietus, (hath gone quit there- of,) which was called a “quietus est.” Cowell. In modern law, the word denotes an acquittance or discharge; as of an executor or administrator, (White v. Ditson, 140 Mass. 351, 4 N.
