单词 | CHLORINATED FLUOROCARBON |
释义 | Hydrocarbon with some hydrogen atoms replaced by chlorine and fluorine atoms. Chemically and thermally stable, CFCs are noncombustible synthetic solvents with several industrial applications. Manufacturing aerosols, plastic foam, and refrigerants are some used. Their production and use is restricted although relatively less toxic, because they contribute to the destruction of the ozone gas in upper atmosphere when released into the atmosphere. This allows cancer-causing ultraviolet (UV) rays to reach the earth’s surface by causing large ‘holes’ in the ozone layer. CFCs are grouped as fluorocarbons, along with chlorofluoromethanes, . Also known as chlorofluorocarbon. |
