Seanad Eireann the upper house of the parliament, or OIREACHTAS, of the Republic of Ireland, which is composed of 60 members of whom 11 are nominated by the TAOISEACH, or prime minister, and 49 are elected. Of the elected members, six represent Dublin University and the National University of Ireland. The other 43 are elected by an electorate comprising members of the new dail, the outgoing sena- tors and members of county and borough councils from various pan- els representing agriculture, the arts, industry, commerce and pro- fessions and public administration.
