释义	Community law Community law the law of the EUROPEAN UNION and its associated bodies. It is superior to the law of MEMBER STATES, taking precedence over the law of the member states and yet actually is law in the states. It has many different sources, but legislation is chiefly passed through the COMMISSION OF THE EUROPEAN UNION and the COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION. Legislation is carried through in many forms, principally the DIRECTIVE and REGULATION. The JURISPRUDENCE of the COURT OF JUSTICE OF THE EUROPEAN UNION is a very important source of law, especially as it has assumed the power to strike down the legis- lation of member states and, indeed, the organs of the Union itself.
