| 释义 | dependant dependant a person who to a greater or lesser extent depends on oth- ers for the provision of maintenance and accommodation and other necessities of life. Legally, only wives and unmarried children under the age of 18 can be dependants. It has been held that a mother who looked after her disabled daughter from birth to 14 years was a dependant of the deceased daughter under and in terms of the Inher- itance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975. Under this Act any person being a dependant in fact may make a claim on the estate.For immigration purposes, dependants require entry clearance except where European COMMUNITY LAW applies. |
