bereavement benefit
A benefit payable to widows, widowers, and (since December 2005) civil partners subject to conditions set out in the Welfare Reform and Pensions Act 1999. It consists of a bereavement payment (made as a lump sum), a widowed parent allowance (where applicable), and a bereavement allowance.Before 2001 it was known as the widow’s pension and available only to women. For widows, widowers, or surviving civil partners bereaved on or after 6 April 2017 bereavement benefit has been replaced by Bereavement Support Payment. |
