child cruelty Under the Children and Young Persons Act 1933 (s 1) any person aged 16 or over who has responsibility for any person under that age commits the offence of child cruelty if he wilfully assaults, ill-treats, neglects, abandons, or exposes that young person, or causes or procures him to be assaulted, ill-treated, neglected, abandoned, or exposed in a manner likely to cause him unnecessary suffering or injury to health.
