offer of amends
A procedure introduced by the Defamation Act 1996, whereby a defendant in an action for defamation may make a written offer to publish an apology or correction and pay damages. The defendant may not rely on any other defence. Acceptance of such an offer will terminate any defamation proceedings and parties settle between themselves. |
