official copy An exact copy of an official document, supplied and marked as such by the office that holds or issues the original. Official copies are generally admissible in evidence to the same extent as the original. Thus official copies of entries recorded at the Land Registry are used in conveyancing as evidence of title to registered land, and an official copy grant of probate may be used to prove an executor’s right to receive or deal with the deceased’s assets. |
