slander of goods
(disparagement of goods) A false statement, made maliciously, that disparages the quality of goods manufactured and sold by the claimant. It is a form of the tort of malicious falsehood. In order to be actionable, the statement must allege some specific defect in the claimant’s goods. A mere assertion by a rival trader that his goods are better is not sufficient, even if the claim was false and malicious. |
