statement of reasons for dismissal A written notice of the reasons for an employee’s dismissal or for the nonrenewal of a fixed-term contract. Under the terms of the Employment Rights Act 1996, a dismissed employee having two years’ continuous employment may demand such a statement from his employer and may complain to an employment tribunal if the statement is refused or not provided within 14 days.
