Treasury Solicitor
(HM Procurator General and Treasury Solicitor) A solicitor who advises the Treasury on legal matters, instructs parliamentary counsel on Bills, instructs counsel to appear on behalf of the Crown in civil cases involving Treasury issues, and acts as Queen’s Proctor. Between 1883 and 1908 the office was combined with that of Director of Public Prosecutions. The Treasury Solicitor’s Department is the largest division of the Government Legal Service; the Treasury Solicitor is the head of this service. |
