单词 bona vacantia
释义

bona vacantia
[Latin: empty goods] Ownerless property. In practice, such property tends to belong to one of two classes:

1. Property not disposed of by a deceased’s will and to which there is no relation entitled on intestacy;
2. Assets of a dissolved company or unincorporated association that failed to be distributed before dissolution.

Depending on where it is sited, such property passes to the Crown, the Duchy of Lancaster, or the Duke of Cornwall. In the case of the property left by a deceased person, it may be donated to charity or used to make ex gratia payments, at the discretion of the Crown, Duchy, or Duke, to any dependants of the deceased and anyone else for whom he might reasonably have been expected to provide. In the case of business assets, the property is usually sold on the open market. See vesting order.
