venture capital trust
(VCT) An investment company listed on the London Stock Exchange that invests in companies of the same kind as those that can qualify under the Enterprise Investment Scheme. This enables individuals to spread investment risk over a number of qualifying companies. The investor buys shares in the VCT, and fund managers invest the money by subscribing for newly issued share in trading companies; the profits are paid out as dividends. The investor is entitled to relief from income tax and capital gains tax. |
