community home An institution for the accommodation and maintenance of children and young persons in care. Community homes are provided by local authorities and voluntary organizations under the Children Act 1989. A local authority may be liable for the acts of children in community homes. Sections 54–58 of the Children Act contain provisions relating to the closure of “controlled” and “assisted” community homes. As there are very few such homes still in existence, these provisions are now very rarely used. |
