Community Patent
(Unitary Patent) A proposed European Union patent that was agreed in 2013; it will consist of a single, unitary, centrally enforceable patent to cover all the member states of the EU except Spain and Croatia. The patent was supposed to become available in 2017, but the ratification process has seen repeated delays. Its creation is closely linked to the establishment of a European Patent Court. The EU Community Patent is distinct from the current European Patent, which is granted under the European Patent Convention and does not have unitary effect. |
