corporation
(body corporate) n. An entity that has legal personality, i.e. it is capable of enjoying and being subject to legal rights and duties (see juristic person) and possesses the capacity of succession. A corporation aggregate (e.g. a company registered under the Companies Acts) consists of a number of members who fluctuate from time to time. A corporation sole (e.g. the Crown) consists of one member only and his or her successors. See also incorporation. |
