conference n. 1. A meeting of members of the House of Lords and the House of Commons appointed to attempt to reach agreement when one House objects to amendments made to one of its Bills by the other. 2. A meeting between counsel and a solicitor and client to discuss a case in which they are engaged. Conferences usually take place at counsel’s chambers. If the barrister involved is a QC, the meeting is called a consultation. |
