cruelty n. Formerly, behaviour serious enough to injure a spouse’s physical or mental health. Cruelty was at one time a basis in itself for granting a divorce or orders in magistrates’ courts and subsequently would have constituted relevant behaviour under the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973 s 1(2)(b) before this Act was amended by the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020. |
