Judicature Acts Statutes passed in 1873 and 1875 (36 and 37 Vict c 66; 38 and 39 Vict c 77) regulating the organization and powers of the courts and the proceedings therein. The Acts were revolutionary in two senses: firstly, because they represent the first wholesale restructuring and rationalization of the English courts that had taken place since English law began; secondly, because they allowed all the common-law courts to apply the rules and remedies of equity and all the courts of equity to apply the rules and remedies of the common law. |
