juror n. A member of a jury. Jurors are chosen from the electoral register; they must be aged between 18 and 75 (the upper age limit was raised from 70 as of 1 December 2016) and must have been resident in the UK for any period of at least five years since the age of 13. Each juror must swear or affirm that he will faithfully try the case and give a true verdict according to the evidence. Certain classes of person, including past and present holders of any judicial office and serving police officers, were formerly ineligible for jury service but this is no longer the case. Anyone who has ever been imprisoned for five years or more, or who has received any sentence of imprisonment or suspended imprisonment within the preceding 10 years, or who is on bail, is disqualified from jury service.
