lex loci contractus
[Latin] The law of the place where a contract was made. In private international law, this law governs such matters as the formal requirements of a contract and the capacity to incur liability as a party to a bill of exchange. Most other matters relating to contracts are governed by the proper law of a contract. Case: Bodley Head Ltd v Flegon [1972] 1 WLR 680.
