common land
Land subject to rights of common. The Commons Registration Act 1965 provides for the registration with local authorities of all common land in England and Wales, its owners, and claims to rights of common over it. This requirement was continued under the Commons Registration Act 2006. Registration usually provides conclusive evidence that land is common land but not necessarily of the extent of the rights of common over it. |
