aggravated vehicle-taking An offence concerning so-called joyriding, created by the Aggravated Vehicle Taking Act 1992 and inserted in The Theft Act 1968 (s 12A). The offence arises when a motor vehicle that has been unlawfully taken is driven in a dangerous manner on a public road, causing an accident resulting in injury to another person or damage to property or to the vehicle itself. Any person who either (i) took the vehicle or (ii) drove it or rode in it knowing that it was taken without the owner’s consent may be guilty of the offence. |
