resolution n. 1. A decision reached by a majority of the members at a company meeting. See elective resolution; ordinary resolution; special resolution; written resolution. 2. The decision of a meeting of any other assembly, such as the United Nations General Assembly. Such a resolution, strictly speaking, has no binding effect on either the Security Council or the United Nations as a whole. Academics have treated such resolutions as containing a kind of soft law. |
