Nightingale courts
An informal name for the temporary courts set up in England and Wales during the Coronavirus pandemic of 2020–1; the aim was to reduce the backlog of cases arising from nationwide lockdowns and government-imposed social-distancing measures. The courts, which were housed in theatres, town halls, libraries, etc., heard civil, family, and tribunals work as well as non-custodial criminal cases. |
