seisin n. Possession of a freehold estate in land. Historically, availability of certain remedies for a landowner depended on being able to show seisin. In old conveyances, owners are sometimes said to be seised of land. In modern times it is unnecessary to distinguish between seisin and possession, the latter being the basis of most remedies available to a landowner. See also unity of seisin. |
