talaq
n. An Islamic divorce, usually effected by a triple declaration (“I divorce you”) by the husband to the wife in front of witnesses. In some Muslim countries this may be done informally; in other countries it must be pronounced before an authorized officer of the court. It may also be effected by a written talaqnama.
