trade union official An officer of a trade union or a person elected or appointed in accordance with the union’s rules to represent a group of its members (e.g. a branch or section). An employee who is a trade union official is entitled to time off work, paid at his normal rate, for certain purposes. These must be official union duties concerning industrial relations between his employer and any associated employer and their employees or training approved by the Trades Union Congress and relevant to his union duties. |
