administrator n. 1. A person appointed by the court to collect and distribute a deceased person’s estate when the deceased died intestate, his will did not appoint an executor, or the executor refuses to act. An administrator’s authority to deal with the estate does not begin until the court has granted letters of administration. The Non-Contentious Probate Rules 1987 (r 20 and r 22) lay down the order in which people are entitled to a grant of representation. Compare executor. 2. See administration. |
