ASBO Anti-Social Behaviour Order: formerly, a court order that prohibited the recipient from doing anything described in the order. Under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, an ASBO could be imposed on an individual providing that the person had acted in an anti-social manner, that is to say, in a manner likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress, and that such an order was necessary to protect relevant persons from further anti-social acts by him. ASBOs could may be imposed either as an alternative to criminal prosecution or following a conviction in criminal proceedings. Under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 ASBOs have now been replaced by civil injunctions and Criminal Behaviour Orders. |
