[Latin: to come anew] An order made by the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division) ordering a new trial where there has been a fundamental irregularity in procedure so serious as to render the original trial a mistrial. Originally, it was a writ (venire facias de novo juratores) addressed to the sheriff, ordering him to cause new jurors to try the case afresh. |
