Victims’ Right to Review Scheme A scheme that enables a victim of a crime to request a review of the final decision of a Crown Prosecutor not to start a prosecution or to stop one that has started. The Scheme defines a victim as “a person who has made an allegation that they have suffered harm, including physical, mental or emotional harm or economic loss which was directly caused by criminal conduct”. A request to review should ordinarily be made within 10 working days of the decision being communicated to the victim. If the original decision not to prosecute is upheld by the same local Crown Prosecution Service office, then the decision becomes subject to a second review by a prosecutor from a different office. |
