view n. (in court proceedings) An inspection by a judge, or by a judge and jury, of any place or object (such as a bus) that cannot be brought to court, and with respect to which any question arises in the course of litigation. A view is part of the evidence in the case, and a judge should not hold a private view of a public place in the absence of the parties. A view should normally be attended by the judge and the parties, as well as by the jury and the accused in criminal proceedings. |
