writ of possession In civil proceedings, a writ directing the High Court Enforcement Officer (formerly the sheriff) to enter upon land to give vacant possession to the claimant. It is used to enforce a judgment or order for the possession of land. In the county court a judgment or order for the recovery of land is enforced by a bailiff under a warrant of possession. Relevant procedural rules are set out in Schedules 1 and 2 to the Civil Procedure Rules. |
