client n. A person who employs a solicitor to carry out legal business on behalf of himself or someone else. The relationship between a solicitor and his client is a fiduciary one and any other transactions between them may be affected by undue influence. Except in very limited circumstances under the direct access scheme, a solicitor’s client cannot consult a barrister directly but only through his solicitor: the solicitor is therefore the barrister’s client. |
