Law Society The professional body for solicitors in England and Wales, incorporated by royal charter in 1831. The Society exists to further the professional interests of solicitors by providing advice, training, and other services and also represents the profession to government. Until 2007 the Law Society discharged important statutory functions in relation to the admission to practice, the conduct, and the discipline of solicitors; this regulatory role has now been transferred to the Solicitors Regulation Authority, an independent board of the Society.
