Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) A court order that can be made against a person on conviction for any criminal offence, either in addition to any penalty imposed for the offence or in addition to a conditional discharge order. The CBO requires the offender to do a certain thing, or to refrain from doing a certain thing, as specified in the order, the object being to prevent him from engaging in behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress to any person. The positive requirement in a CBO is often enrolment in an approved drug or alcohol education programme. Under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, CBOs were introduced to replace ASBOs (Anti-Social Behaviour Orders) imposed on conviction. Breach of the order may be punished by an unlimited fine or up to five years in prison. See also civil injunction. |
