Department for Constitutional Affairs (DCA) A UK government department created in 2003 from the former Lord Chancellor’s Department. Its principal responsibilities were running the courts and justice system, upholding legal and human rights, and modernizing the constitution in terms of the Constitutional Reform Act 2005. Associated bodies included the Office for Judicial Complaints and the Judicial Appointments Commission. The Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs was the Lord Chancellor. The responsibilities of the DCA transferred to the new Ministry of Justice in May 2007. |
