exchange of contracts
The point at which a purchaser of land exchanges a copy of the sale contract signed by him for an identical copy signed by the vendor. At that point the contract becomes legally binding on both parties and the purchaser acquires an equitable interest in the land. He will not acquire the legal estate until completion and registration. |
