European Union Trade Mark (EUTM) A trade mark that is registered for the whole of the European Union. It can be obtained by application to national trade mark offices or the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) at Alicante, Spain. The European Commission adopted the Regulation for the Community Trade Mark, regulation 40/94, on 20 December 1993; UK legislation was included in the Trade Marks Act 1994 On 1 January 2021 EUTMs for the UK were automatically redesignated as UK trade marks following the end of the post-Brexit implementation period. Marks are registered for a period of ten years and may be renewed on payment of fees. The EUTM was formerly known as the Community Trade Mark (CTM). |
