fixed penalty notice
A notice given to a person who has committed a traffic offence entitling that person to discharge any liability to conviction by payment of a prescribed amount of money in accordance with the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988, as amended by the Road Traffic Safety Act 2006.

Fixed penalty notices are not, however, confined to road traffic offences and can be issued in respect of a range of offences under the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001; these offences include throwing fireworks in a thoroughfare, trespassing on a railway, disorderly behaviour while drunk in a public place, and depositing and leaving litter.
