insolvency practitioner
A person appointed to officiate in the winding-up or administration of a company or in bankruptcy proceedings. The Insolvency Act 1986 requires the appointment of a qualified practitioner to act as a liquidator, an administrative receiver, an administrator, the supervisor of a voluntary arrangement, or a trustee in bankruptcy. Under the Act, a person is only authorized to act in such a capacity if he has met certain statutory requirements, including membership of an approved professional body (such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales or the Insolvency Practitioners Association). |
