forced marriage protection order An order providing legal protection for an actual or potential victim of a forced marriage. The court has wide powers to include a range of provisions, such as those prohibiting a potential victim from being taken outside the UK for the purposes of marrying overseas or preventing someone (typically a member of the family) from molesting or contacting a woman who has left the family and sought refuge elsewhere. An application for such an order can be made by the victim or a third party, such as a relative or teacher. Breach of an order is a criminal offence. |
