litigation friend
(in civil proceedings) A person responsible under Part 21 of the Civil Procedure Rules for the conduct and cost of legal proceedings instituted on behalf of, or against, a child or a mentally disordered person. Before the introduction of the Civil Procedure Rules in 1999 such a person was called a next friend or a guardian ad litem. See also children’s guardian; Official Solicitor. |
