Biodiversity Treaty
A proposed treaty to better regulate marine protected areas, to promote environmental impact assessments, and to improve the management of marine genetic resources. It is being developed by the intergovernmental conference on the Biodiversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) that was convened by UN resolution 72/249 of December 2017. However, as things stand, several important questions remain unanswered, including the extent to which the treaty will apply to fisheries.
