affiliation order Formerly, an order of a magistrates’ court against a man alleged to be the father of an “illegitimate” child, obliging him to make payments towards the upkeep of the child. Affiliation proceedings have been abolished by the Family Law Reform Act 1987 and financial provision for “illegitimate” and “legitimate” children is now the same (see child support maintenance). |
