complainant
n. In criminal proceedings, a person who makes a formal complaint that an offence has been committed. In relation to rape or other sexual offences the complainant is the person against whom the offence is alleged to have been committed. In such cases the complainant is allowed by statute to remain anonymous; evidence relating to her previous sexual experience cannot be given (unless the court rules otherwise). |
