First-tier Tribunal A body created in 2008 under the Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Act 2007 to take over the functions of 20 previously existing tribunals. It currently consists of seven chambers: the General Regulatory Chamber; the Social Entitlement Chamber; the Health, Education and Social Care Chamber; the Tax Chamber; the War Pensions and Armed Forces Compensation Chamber; the Immigration and Asylum Chamber; and the Property Chamber. In most cases appeals against the decisions of the First-tier Tribunal can be made to the Upper Tribunal, which exercises judicial review over its decisions. |
