Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 Legislation that places a statutory duty on local housing authorities to intervene at an early stage with advice and support to prevent homelessness. From October 2018 the Act introduces a new “duty to refer”; this requires specified public authorities in England to notify local housing authorities of individuals they think may be homeless or threatened with becoming homeless in the next 56 days.
